PHE said Environmental friendly LED street lights are easy to damage eyesight

   A report from Daily Mail warns that modern new-type LED street lights are more cost-efficient and environmental friendly while cause more insomnia to residents. Also, LED street lights are easy in a way to damage people eyesight.

   Currently, there are growing trends for government and purchasers to replace traditional street lights with new-type LED street lights as they consume less energy, bring fewer pollutants and last longer. While Public Health England (PHE) point out that LED street lights emit uncomfortable lights to bring permanent damage to people’s eyesight. Meanwhile, PHE also puts forward that as growing LED bulbs thousands of hundreds of automobile will apply LED bulbs. Dizzy lights maybe caused problems to traffic actors.

   UK parliament said that street lights with LED technology can save energy more than 40%. Most of human-made light can protect eyes from intensive light stimulation, while new-type LED street light fails.

   The report said some street light with LED technology can cast shadows under lamps to become light pollution source. Street light is likely to adopt blue light to keep drivers awake. However, the problem is that this light maybe cause people feel uneasy as blue light could damage retina.

   PHE proposes that local government should lower influence of LED. Warmer light should be the best choice as warm white light causes minimum damage to eyes.

   PHE hopes that low-intensify light should be applied in LED street lights to reduce glisten as a best way to improve lighting quality.
