The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) announced that it outstripped the target for the replacement of street lighting system in 2017 with higher energy-efficient LED alternatives supported by LED street lights manufacturers.
A release last evening from company point out that the plan of 2017 to install approximately 35,000 street lights has been finished in advance. In the actual installation, it installed 36,400 LED street lights last year.
This move is part of the national energy-saving plan to enforce smart LED lighting system capable of remotely collecting the information including the energy consumption, lamps breakdown and operating status, providing the controlling for the dimming when necessary. The installation of new LED street lights will provide brighter glow and better visibility for local residents. Residents will feel safer. The plan is part of a global trend that has seen a growing number of city authorities around the world switch to LED lamps served by LED street lights manufacturers in a bid to cut costs and carbon emissions.
