Glendale and LED street lighting manufacturers becomes the first to make plan to replace streetlights with LED bulbs
Glendale was honored for the plan drafted by Glendale and LED street lighting manufacturers to change out all of their traditional high-pressure sodium arc lights with higher energy-efficient LED alternatives.
This move was achieved with help from Arizona State University’s Sustainable Cities Network and LED street lighting manufacturers. Through this cooperation, it is estimated that a great deal of energy use, carbon footprint, recycling and other efforts will be reduced. According to the plan approximately 92,000 streetlights are on the upgrading lists in the future.
Since Glendale exists 18,000 street lights, they can save a considerable reduced cost per unit if in a group buying way. Local authority has been also contracting with LED street lighting manufacturer, who was in charge of the Phoenix upgrading plan, to do the same in Glendale. The time for one unit replacement it cost is about 10 minutes.
New-Type LED units have advantages of making the installation much simpler, enabling to change out all the LED street lights faster and more efficiently than in years past. The LEDs will last longer, require less electricity and maintenance cost. After all the replacement plan being finished, it is estimated that about $674,000 savings will be cut a year.
As part of the global trend to converting to LED products, this move has seen a growing number of city authorities around the world switch to LED lamps served by LED street lighting manufacturers in a bid to cut costs and carbon emissions. And it will inspire other Valley and sustainable cities to get moving on more projects.
