Indianapolis kicks off street light conversion plan with LED street lights
A recent plan has been announced by Indianapolis government on Monday that approximately 27,000 city lights will be retrofitted and this city will cooperate with local energy bureau to mount new LED street lights up to 4,000 in darkest areas around the city.
The reason for retrofitting these street lights with LED street lights is that previous traditional streetlights consume considerable energy while emit dim light and release huge carbon emission. Above circumstance make street unsafe as traffic accidents rate and night crime higher.
A spokesperson said in this statement that the plan has been stopped for 30 years, preventing this city from increasing new lights. And now is the time to restart this project and make the city brighter.
About 27,000 original street lights head will be converted with LED technology across the city. Such big number of street lights will cut energy consumption by 50%, amounting to millions of dollars reduced. It is estimated that about 13,290 tons carbon Footprint will be reduced.
It will spent three years to replace these 27,000 street lights with LED technology and about 125 street lights replacement will be finished per week. New lights are brighter and obviously energy-efficient, which means they will last longer than before.
Regarding where to go the 4,000 LED street lights installation have not been not determined. While, this project will be kicked off in the fall of 2018.
