China will phase out CFL bulbs till 2021

Over the past couples of years, the compact fluorescent lights (CFL) were the prioritized choice for customers seeking an inexpensive, energy-efficient replacement of the standard incandescent bulbs. However, with the rapid industry development and technological improvement of LEDs, along with quality hikes and cost plummeted, the lighting destination has gradually shifted.

The Minamata Convention on Mercury will be enforced in China, Aug 16, 2017, according to Ministry of environmental protection. From 2021, China will phase out the mercury production and use in a number of batteries, fluorescent lamps and other mercury products. And raw mercury exploitation should stop by 2032.

In early years, incandescent lamps prevailed for some years while afterwards no longer met government standards as its high energy using and low efficiency. Thus CFL bulbs came out and became the first big energy-saving alternative as transition. It was under fire for containing too much mercury and other pollutants.

LEDs were more expensive, but the technology found fans who said they offered better light quality. High CRI, high fidelity, low energy using made it a better product. In the long term, it is the most cost-performance product in this world.
