India's three-fourths percent LED street lamps found to be unqualified

In India’s 1 billion dollars about three fourth market LED street lamps sold were found to be non-compliant with the national safety standards in India, according to a recent research in a survey Monday.

The survey was carried out based on about 200 LED retailers across some big cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad in July, founding the most LED bulbs products to be spurious and unqualified which highly violates the standards of the national safety and infringe the revenue and tax of the country.

These spurious products and unidentified LED bulbs products are not merely a severe threat to market participants who are compliant and qualified to the national standards but also infringe the India reputation and plan such as the Made in India Plan. This will severely disturb and interfere the order of the market if some correction measures are not taken. This will also influence the revenue of the India.

This year India government has announced that the nation will gradually phase out the incandescent bulbs and turn into the LED product. Nevertheless, the current situation is clearly a bad roadblock for this plan.

Against this background, the India authority announces that they are tightening the products safety quality control for the consumer’s goods for the purpose of reducing this spurious and unqualified products flood into the market to infringe the customers’ interest and impact the national tax.

The findings showed that 48 percent of LED street lamps brands had no mention of manufacturer’s address and 31 percent did not have a manufacturer’s name.
